Episode 5 - Ain't No Mountain High Enough Empty Episode 5 - Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Darkness falls, but it's still going down. BAMPF! The first claymore goes off. Movement! Movement all over the place. Clicking, shuffling...
"Why are we always having to ship out of wherever we hole up!" Waters screams as Farley starts the engines.

He cycles the doors on the bunker, after rigging the place to blow, and guns the battlebus into the falling snow. The lights illuminate the airfield as he sees them. Damned Devil Dogs...clickers, with their bone eyelid and their mutated slavering jaws.

They've caught something too, out by the entrance. Damned scavengers.
"Wait. I'm not going to blow this place because of these mutts! We're going back."
The clickers are starting to run toward the bus, but they have time, right? Farley swings open the hatch and climbs onto the hull...it'll only take seconds to deactivate the claymores. He looks up as he hears the click from the roof of the bunker...
One chance...either take the hit, or let it get into the cab. For an instant he considers letting the rest of the team take on the mutt...but it's that instant that slows down his reaction, as the clicker bites into his shoulder and wrestles him to the ground and he falls off the bus.

"Faucy! GO! GO! GO! Keeler, get Farley!"
Keeler opens the hatch and kills the clicker on him before grabbing the driver. The bus is moving now, but not well, careening across the ice and tarmac, slamming into bunker outbuildings and slowing becoming covered by the clickers.
"Close the f**king hatches!"
Waters kicks the door mechanism as Farley gets pulled in, jumping up to pull down the roof hatch, as saliva drips onto his face from the dogs on the roof about to gain entry.

"F**KING DRIVE!"
Faucy screams as she tries to get the bus moving...can't see; the dogs at the windscreen, they're going to tear her apart..NO! She screams as the vehicle lurches into a ditch. Farley's stuff is flung about the cab, as he wakes up and dries to climb through the confusion to get to Faucy. Something tells Keeler that he should be helping her, not this driver...
"Easy girl...you can do it."
But Faucy is terrified, as Farley gears the bus out of the ditch and slams Faucy's foot on the accelerator, the lurching shunt sending them forward and clearing the windscreen of devil dogs.

There, in the headlights...a woman...no cold weather gear, exhausted, frightened, she looks like...
"Keeler...another hatch job. You ready?"
Keeler pumps the shotgun and clears the hull. "Eat this!" - a clicker head disintegrates in a hail of buckshot. He grabs the girl.
"Punch it Farley!"

...

"M...My name is Allison. I'm from Rourke's Drift."
"You have a sister?" Waters asks "You look very much like..."
"I have many brothers and sisters. Take me back to them. You will be rewarded...we seek Faucy. Only Faucy can stop the prophet III and the followers of the new sun. But we can't find Faucy."
"Oh really?" Waters replies, hoping that Keeler doesn't give the game away with a reaction. He doesn't, but that last shotgun shell gets pumped into the chamber a little too hard.

...

Waters remembers the communications station on top of the mountain. He was here before. He tries to crush the regret. October was her name. She had green eyes. She...
"We can't get up there guys," Farley shouts from the cab. "Trans-axle is busted. We're just grinding metal. Gotta ease down." They all try hard not to stare at Faucy.
"I can fix it," she shouts.
They establish a perimeter, worried that the light will attract clickers, but Faucy is all 'Jenny on the spot' with the welding and tech.
"It's done," she says, though there's a nagging feeling that they shouldn't have left Allison alone.

...

Waters pulls back the hammer on the Detonics, the muzzle grinding against Allison's chin bone.
"What the f**k are you messing with that tech for. What do you know about the jeepus?"
Something in Keeler makes him want to help the girl, but he buries it.
"It...we can use it. You scavengers have no idea what it does," she says, though she doesn't appear too terrified of Waters. "Rothschild said you were a good man."
"Perhaps you should tell us what it does?"
"It's...it's part of the reason we need Faucy. It...it can show us movement, location, numbers. It will show us III's people, where they are. We can kill them all."
Faucy realises that the tech is a little more than even she realised. It's not just a positioning unit, it's linked to orbiting tracking systems. Holy sh1t...we can't just sell it!
"So, you were looking for Faucy...?" she says, staring at Allison, whose jaw drops as realisation hits her.

...

Faucy never liked heights, and here she is at the top of the f**king gantry in a f**king communications tower. Just f**king dandy.
She uses the same power unit that made the jeepus 'go' to makes the dish move.
"ETA on the signal...two minutes" she shouts.
"Terrific," Waters says to himself, staring down at the valley and the massive power station below. Cooling towers, steam tunnels. Entire civilisations could live in that place and no-one would even know. He inhales from the cigarette, staring at his fingernails, red with someone's blood.

The jeepus thrums to life. The 2D image widens, showing the valley, the bridge, the hub...it triangulates and pings to show Faucy, then grows into a 3D glowing hologram...she manipulates the position with her fingers, tracks...everything!
"It works," she screams from the dish.

Farley stares down at the valley before them. Massive, and filled with snow. It could almost be described as beautiful, but he knows that it won't be. He guns the engines and they move forward...goddam crazy train.

A Detonics? Who was reading the Survivalist books again?

A pale skinny girl with no feasible back story way of getting where she was, you fools should have run her over.

Yes...twin detonics I think Wink

And yes, I was kind of astonished myself that she survived...and now she is out of my 'MC crosshairs' as Waters has 'befriended' her...(some wierd rule). It all goes to hell when you're away Mike!
